When I worked in Europe in 1999, I asked a group of Scots whether there was ONE Scotch whisky that the country would all recommend as the ONE that an American has to try, and they all, without hesitation responded "THE MACALLAN", and I commented that because of their lack of hesitation, I would trust their recommendation. (I also noticed that THE is part of the name, it is not a bottle of Macallan, it is a bottle of THE Macallan)
I tried it and was thoroughly impressed with the full, rich flavors, the smoothness and the drinkability, without watering it down and without ice.
Now, remember, at this time, I had only had a few American whiskeys, a few Canadians, Johnny Walker red, black, Jack Daniels and Maker's Mark (which at the time WAS my favorite whiskey overall)
