What prompted my comment was the new notion of TYING Hold Cards into LIVE events at the store.

Using a Hold Card is tied to a release. The live event is also tied to the release. But the use of the Hold Card is not tied to the live event, IMHO. It isn't like the event is only open to people with Hold Cards.

Quote:

When supply is limited at a LIVE event - tickets or chips have been used - there has been general satisfaction from equitable distribution among those PRESENT - relying solely on CHANCE. These events have been OPEN and welcoming to everyone in attendance.

There have certainly those who have expressed disappointment at not getting a certain release when it is something they collect. Even with the Hold Cards - witness the threads from the last round of Pappy releases. If someone has earned Hold Cards by being a regular patron of Julio's and they want to use one to ensure that they get a release, because it is that important to them, good. That's what they're for. It has to be something you really want to 'spend' a Hold Card.

At the last couple of Ardbeg events the availability was great enough that everyone got a bottle - and there were bottles left for the aisle. So it hasn't been an issue. I expect it will be the same this time. But if the quantities were limited such that there was a risk in not getting one, you'd bet I'd use a Hold Card. Ardbeg is something I seek out and it'd save a lot of hassle having to hunt it down later.

Otherwise, what's the point of having a Hold Card if you're not going to use it for just such a purpose?

If supply was so limited that all of it went only to people with Hold Cards (like Pappy), then either that's great for Julio's (lots of Hold Cards means they did lots of business), or the supply is so low that there shouldn't be a live event anyway. If a few bottles go upfront to people with Hold Cards and the rest go up for grabs by chance, great - that's how it is supposed to work.

I guess when you have a/the card(s) it's knowing when to hold, when to fold,
when to walk away and knowing when to dram.

Glad I can't get into this scrum. All I can do is call Ryan and beg for a left over bottle; if one exists.

I suspect there will be a pile of them if it is like the past couple of years.

Ardbeg Day at Julio's is May 28 and it will most likely be "soldout" with max number of people.

Registration is required... via email to ardbegdayUSA@gmail.com

This email address is for JULIO's location only... put # of people in your group in the RE clause.

See you there.

Has anyone received a confirmation to their RSVP email? Just wondering - I emailed three days ago and never got a reply, but I don't know if that's normal.

I haven't received a confirmation either. The whole registration system seems a little screwy.

Yeah - it is 2014, and you *email* to register? From address on a webpage - which could just be a webform to register.

I'd attend except that I have a Gaelic class that evening and Gaelic pretty much trumps every other activity.

Yes ... a wee screwy... and LAST year's Committee Special Release is still available at state liq stores to the north... so last year /Ardbog is being lapped.

The hoopla of Ardbeg Day @ Julio's, though, is not to be missed.

Perhaps L&K members can set a new Guiness Record... like the greatest # of people who arrive with Ardbeg tattoos... or wearing KILTS?

I LOVE how the L&K spellchecker thinks ARDBEG is an alien term. I do not recall Ardbeg in H2G2.
